Highest Individual Score in ODI – Sachin

Even before he took guard at Gwalior, Sachin Tendulkar’s place in the pantheon of cricketing gods was assured. He had already amassed both the highest number of runs and the maximum tons in Tests and one-dayers alike.

If devout worshippers had any reason to quibble, it was that there was no one record-shattering innings – Brian Lara has the highest Test score of 400 and Saeed Anwar and the little-known Charles Coventry shared the ODI record of 194.

Just 147 balls later, Tendulkar set the record straight in emphatic fashion. A staggering 2,961 matches and almost 39 years after the first ODI was played – and remember, many ODIs in the early years featured innings of 60 overs each, which gave batsmen more scoring opportunities – the Little Legend finally became the first cricketer to score 200 in a one-dayer, propelled by a record 25 fours in one knock.

The landmark 200 came in the final over of the innings, though Sachin crossed the previous record of 194 in the 46th over; in the interim, several lustily-hit fours and sixes by M S Dhoni were accompanied by groans from millions of spectators desperate to see Sachin on strike.

Here is a great news for all cricket fans across the globe. Yes, Game cricket is now included in upcoming Olympic events 2020. International Olympic Committee decided to include this game and some more games in the 2020 Olympics.

Cricket was cleared to pursue its bid to be included in future Games after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) rubberstamped the sport’s recognition on Thursday.

“The session gave definite recognition to the three federations,” IOC spokesman Mark Adams told reporters. The three sports can now bid to join the 2020 Olympics as the programme is always determined seven years in advance.

Ajith Kumar’s complaint and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s Reaction

Reacting to actor Ajith Kumar’s complaint that actors were forced to participate in political and social events, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Saturday spoke out against forcefully bringing politics into the film world and forcing anyone to take part in such events.

At a function organised to felicitate the Chief Minister for granting land for housing scheme for the film industry workers, Ajith wanted the Chief Minister to issue a direction that film personalities should not be arm-twisted to attend social and political events. While the entire gathering in the Jawaharalal Nehru Stadium seemed taken by surprise, actor Rajinikanth, who was sitting beside Mr. Karunanidhi, gave a standing ovation to Ajith.

“If we don’t attend the protest, we are portrayed as anti-Tamils. On the one hand, they want us to participate in political events and on the other hand they threaten us not to enter politics. What is wrong in our entering politics if we are expected to participate in political and social events?” Ajith asked. Though he did not mention Ajith’s name, the Chief Minister said everyone had gathered in the auditorium not because of politics, but as part of the art world.

He said he was against mixing politics with film world, but he could not be held responsible if politics entered on its own. The Chief Minister said it would be nice if politics brought benefits to the film industry. “But I don’t want to create trouble by bringing it to the film world,” he said. Earlier joining issue with Ajith, the guest of the evening Amitabh Bachchan, directors Bharathiraja and V.C. Guhanathan and actor Sarath Kumar clarified that no one was forced to attend Saturday’s function. Bachchan said he was not arm-twisted by any politician to attend the function. “I have come here because of my love for the Tamil film world,” he added.

Stating that Tamil cinema remained an example for skill and discipline, he said Mumbai needed to learn a lot from the Tamil film world. Actor Rajinikanth stressed the need to ensure that the poor among the film industrial workers were benefited from the housing scheme. Actor Kamal Haasan, music director Ilayaraja, lyricist Vairamuthu and many others spoke. The event was marked by various cultural programmes by film and TV artists.

Samsung S2 500GB USB drive comes with Michael Jackson documentary

It’s always interesting seeing what manufacturers of storage solutions will do to differentiate themselves from the competition. Hard drives, USB flash drives, secure digital cards… there’s slight permutations in the formula, in performance, but at the end of the day, little that distinguishes one model from another as far as the average consumer is concerned, save storage space.

One of the recent trends in differentiation is loading portable hard drives or flash drives with digital copies of popular movies. Samsung’s latest drive, the 500GB Smasung S2 Portable External Hard Drive, takes this route, trying to cash in on the posthumous Jacko mania by pre-loading its drive with a copy of Michael Jackson’s This Is It and timing the drive’s release with the release of the DVD and Blu-Ray versions of the movie in Europe on February 22nd.

It’s an interesting tactic, but I think hard drive manufacturers are finding that loading a hard drive or flash drive with a popular movie still only really appeals to people who happen to find themselves in the market for both storage and a DVD of that particular film at the same time. In other words, this is a very minor collector’s item that even most Jacko fans will pass up.

Shiv Sena attacks Rahul Gandhi again

In a fresh salvo against Rahul Gandhi, Shiv Sena today flayed the ”Congress yuvraj” for calling Mumbai as Bombay during his recent visit to the city. “During his speech here, Rahul Gandhi repeatedly called Mumbai as Bombay. Those who want to break Mumbai away from Maharashtra call Mumbai as Bombay,” Sena Chief Bal Thackeray said in an editorial in party mouthpiece ”Saamana.”

39-year-old Gandhi’s Mumbai visit was like the “funeral procession of Congress” taken out by Marathi people, Thackeray said. Ridiculing Minister of State for Home Ramesh Bagwe, who was seen carrying Gandhi’s shoes, apparently for safe-keeping, during the Congress leader’s visit here, Thackeray said, “The minister should be ashamed to stoop so low.” “Rahul Gandhi is not a Mahatma Gandhi so that his shoes should be held close to the heart,” the editorial said.

South Africa defeat India in first test

NAGPUR, India (Reuters) – South Africa won the opening test by an innings and six runs on Tuesday to hand top-ranked India their first defeat on home soil in almost two years. Left-arm spinner Paul Harris and fast bowler Dale Steyn took three wickets each to help South Africa record a morale-boosting victory after they broke Sachin Tendulkar’s resistance following his 46th test century.

India were bowled out for 319 as Steyn finished with a match haul of 10 for 108 following South Africa’s imposing first innings of 558 for six declared and a career-best seven for 51 in India’s first innings. Harris took the prized wicket of Tendulkar for 100 after frustrating the master batsman by bowling a defensive leg-side line. Tendulkar’s century, which included 13 boundaries, was his third in three tests.

Harris then dismissed skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for 25 and finished with three for 76 off a marathon 38 overs that included 17 maidens. When India resumed on 66-2 after being forced to follow-on, Tendulkar put on 72 for the third wicket with Murali Vijay before Harris struck. Both Vijay and Tendulkar fell attempting to sweep at Harris, who frustrated the batsmen by bowling accurately to a leg-side field in a successful attempt to dry up runs.

Vijay top-edged to Morne Morkel at fine leg while Tendulkar was bowled, the ball coming off his pad and arm. Left-arm medium-pacer Wayne Parnell had Subramaniam Badrinath (6) edge behind before Tendulkar went. Tendulkar, who was dropped by Jacques Kallis at slip on 45, batted superbly before he succumbed to Harris. Harris then sent back skipper Dhoni, the last recognised batsman, who was caught by AB de Villiers at silly point.

The last four wickets put on 110 runs before Steyn fired out Wriddhiman Saha (36) and Amit Mishra (0) to give Dhoni his first test defeat in his 12-match career as captain. The last time India lost a test at home was to South Africa in Ahmedabad in 2008. Man of the match Hashim Amla hit a double century and Kallis struck 173 to put South Africa in control with Steyn returning his career-best figures to bowl out top-ranked India for 233 in their first innings. The second and final test is in Kolkata at the weekend. South Africa will reclaim the number one ranking if they win the series.
